One month’s work and 500 drawings were transformed into 20 seconds of heart warming animation for the 2015 Peacocks Christmas campaign.

The brief was to create a brand led advert that took inspiration from the high street retailer’s strap line; ‘A lifetime of quality and value’. We went back and forth on a few ideas but eventually settled on the concept of Christmas traditions and family.

Rotoscoping

Initial ideas emerged around rotoscoping techniques and different briefs. Our first idea was strongly inspired by the animated music video for a-ha “Take On Me” which uses the same technique.

Our story follows a young girl as she dances around the Christmas tree year after year until she has grown up and has a little girl and a family of her own, together they share in their Christmas tradition of placing the star on top of the tree.

The concept behind this advert was to get back to the roots of Peacocks as a family business and their core value; ‘a lifetime of quality and value’.

To create the advert; we filmed each of the turns around the tree. Once we had the edit; our team of animators worked by digitally drawing and painting each frame to create the final animation.
